Wholesome & Super Healthy

Living healthy is what I know and love. I grew up in Venezuela in a family where everyone loved cooking — my dad cooked fish and delicious soups, my mom loved baking, my older sister loved cooking savoury dishes and desserts. So I got my inspiration from them but, when I left home, that was when I really started to discover my passion for cooking.

Initially I worked as a Human Resources Consultant in Spain, but I missed cooking. I started baking and selling typical Venezuelan Christmas bread, which was a great success but, as it’s a seasonal food, my husband and I kept our passion for cooking alive creating new recipes and trying them out with our friends and family.

My big challenge came later when I started weaning my daughter Fabiana. As a mother, I wanted to understand exactly what constitutes “a healthy and balanced diet” for children. I started to read more, decided on a career change and studied for my certification as Nutrition Advisor in the UK. Now I understand that homemade food can be more healthy and delicious by just making a few small changes.

Today I live and work in the UK with my Italian/Columbian/Venezuelan husband and two small children, testing products, adapting and creating recipes to share them with my family and clients, and via this website. I share healthy versions of recipes you’ll recognise — but all are given a healthy ‘twist’ to make them lower in salt, fat or sugar — or perhaps a healthier cooking method, but with all the same fantastic flavours. I am also studying “Nutrition for Food Allergies and Intolerances” so my recipes can be adapted for those with food-related intolerances, allergies and disorders.

I am also branching out into catering services and can supply canapés, cakes and cookies for parties or events, which are a healthy twist on your favourite recipes all prepared in my home kitchen which has been awarded the top Food Standards Agency Food Hygiene Rating of 5.

My goal is to teach people that eating good, wholesome food is an excellent way to be more healthy. Eating well is not boring; it’s just about swapping and combining familiar and new ingredients properly. For example, if you’re using Chorizo in a recipe, don’t add any extra oil or if your usual recipe is fried, try baking as a healthier alternative.

My philosophy is ‘everything in moderation’; the World Health Organisation wants everyone to reduce their sugar intake but so much sugar and salt are hidden in items we purchase in the supermarket, for example in pastry, bread, cakes and biscuits. Making food yourself means you are back in control and can make informed choices, improving your health along the way.

I moved to London from Spain four years ago and I love its cosmopolitan atmosphere; you can find produce from every country here so I never feel far from home – and it’s so easy to try something new.

I am co-founder of Healthy Super Mommies (http://healthysupermommies.com), a website where my partner and I share information about our services as Nutritional Advisors. We also offer nutritional tips, home workout reviews, recipes and much more.

So what are you waiting for? Let me know what do you want to eat and together we can transform your favourite recipes, providing you more nutrients and fewer calories. I love eating without guilt – so let me share my passion with you.

Sometimes we are running out of food during our activities, because we spent a lot of time playing out. One day, I was starving in the shopping centre and saw a snack "kale chips", I read the food labelling and I bought it. I knew about its health benefits but I have...
